Four teens on a outdoor hiking trip disappear. A day later one of the teens return alive. Hekla’s Children starts out like an episode of FOX’s Bones with sci-fi/fantasy elements.
Teacher Mr. Nathan Brookes with his “Team Leftovers”: Ryan Edwards, Catharine “Scattie” Powell, Olivia Crawford and Brandon Whitehead go on a outdoor hiking test. During the hike, they find themselves in a different part of the park and seem to be transported to the past – the “Bronze Age.” One survivor Olivia Crawford reappears traumatize and without memory of what happened.
A decade has passed and bones are found where the teens disappeared. Archaeologist Dr. Tara Doumani is brought in to investigate the bones. She discovers the bones are from a Bronze Age warrior. How could this be? More questions abound as teacher Nathan Brookes and student Olivia Crawford are still haunted by this incident. They still believe the missing kids are still alive. They also find that the bones have awaken a mysterious evil. It’s up to the teacher and archaeologist top stop this dark evil.
Hekla’s Children mixes sci-fi and dark fantasy with twists and turns. I enjoyed the many characters like teacher Nathan Brookes and archaeologist Dr. Tara Doumani. If you’re looking for something to read over the Spring weekend, then check out James Brogden’s Hekla’s Children.
