Lately Hot Wheels has been putting really cool JDM cars from the past and present at retail shelves. As you can see from my picture, I’ve been collecting tons of Hot Wheels JDM-type cars. Hot Wheels Car Designer Jun Imai talks his love for classic Nissan cars and creating the 1/64 diecast scale Nissan Fairlady 2000 for Hot Wheels.
Like the Hot Wheels X-Wing Carship, at the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story red carpet event, Nissan also had their Rogue SUV outfitted to look like a X-Wing fighter. The Nissan Rogue SUV was painted to look like the iconic X-Wing with jet engines and laser blasters fitted onto the sides of the car. And to top it off, an R2 Droid sat on top.
Hot Wheels is well known for some of their crazy and wacky car designs. With the life-size build of the Star Wars X-Wing Carship, Hot Wheels also announced the 1/64 scale diecast model for their toy lineup.
The 1960s anime Speed Racer left an impression with this car fanatic and customizer Jerry Patrick. His dream was to build the Mach 5 car from the cartoon. What was once a 1994 Chevy Corvette has been chopped, sliced and converted into Speed Racer’s Mach 5. The car uses fiber class for the shape and look. The process takes about 3-5 months to build one.
Hyundai will be launching their “M” division with their N performance brand of racing inspired street legal cars. At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Hyundai unleashes the RN30 Concept. The hot hatchback features a 2.0L turbo 4-cyclinder engine pumping out 374 horses. Hyundai looks to compete with the likes of the Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST segments.
The Fiesta gets another limited edition run from Ford with the Fiesta ST200 hot hatch. This Fiesta gets 200 horses, upgraded suspension, performance brakes and the ST200 badges if you’re into that stuff. Carfection reviews this limited run fast Ford hatch.

Arriving into US shores this summer 2016 is the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. This sporty luxury automobile looks to compete with the likes of the BMW M3 sedan and Alfa Romeo is hoping to sell lots of Giulia cars. The front end maybe a “love it” or “hate it” look for car fanatics, but it is packaged with a twin-turbo V6 producing over 500 horses and has an adjustable carbon fiber front splitter.
This legendary street/track ready car was available to play in the first Playstation Gran Turismo video game. Only 44 Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R NISMO 400Rs were produced, making this a very rare and special kind of automobile. Carfection takes a ride in this Godzilla.
What is the Ford Focus Black Edition? It’s not the hardcore Focus RS AWD or the peppy fun ST hot hatch. It’s an affordable offering based on the Zetec S model with upgraded bits and parts with a mildly aggressive look. The Black Edition features a 1.5L EcoBoost 180 horsepower engine and around 51mpg estimated.

It’s time for fun rides at the YomiuriLand amusement park in Japan. On March 2016, YomiuriLand opened a new attraction called Gujjoba aka Good Job Attractions, which is aimed at children about Japanese manufacturing pop culture. It took about 7 years and $90 million USD involved to build the new attractions. It features 4 factories: Food Factory by Nissin Food Products, Stationary Factory by Kokuyo, Fashion Factory and for the car geeks – CAR Factory by Nissan. Mattel Hot Wheels has released several 1:64, 1:43 and 1:18 scale “Back to the Future” AMC DeLorean cars, now this summer June 2016, Hot Wheels will be releasing a limited production run of the 2016 Hot Wheels Elite 1:18 Ultimate Edition Time Machine. This elite edition will feature LEDs, sound effects and extra car parts, so “Back to the Future” fans can make all 5 versions of the AMC DeLorean time machine from the series.

I’ve been a fan Tomica’s recent product line: Tomica Premium 1/64 scale die-cast cars. Aimed at the adult collector, the Tomica Premium series features more paint applications and newly designed rims. The head of Tesla Elon Musk yesterday night revealed the “affordable premium Tesla” Model 3 at $35,000USD. This smaller electric sedan will have a range of approximately 215 miles and will seat 5 adults comfortably.
Acura introduces the 2017 NSX GT3 track racing version at the New York International Auto Show. This NSX GT3 race car will not have any hybrid electric components, but will use the same twin-turbo 3.5 V6 engine as the production model.
What it should always have been branded in North America! Not the defunct Scion brand, but Toyota. The Scion FR-S in 2017 goes back to the Toyota car line-up and will simply be known as the Toyota 86. Finally!
