Happy Belated Birthday Dr. Suess!!

Dr Seuss

Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.  And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

-“Oh! The Places You’ll Go”, Dr. Suess, published 1990

Two days ago was the very famous and flamboyant writer of children’s books, Dr Suess’ birthday! I’m sure all of us that have been in grade school cultivated their very first book worm with “The Cat in the Hat” or “Green Eggs and Ham”. Before becoming Dr. Suess, which is just a pen name, he was Theodor Suess Giesel. Dr. Suess was very clever in delivering his own political views to the most important class of people in our society; young children. His children’s books were all written in rhymes, his pictures were colorful and so captured children into reading them, and they were fun and easy to read. His children’s books talked about the arms race, racism, fascism etc. Dr. Suess never liked children and had none of his own, but his works of art continue forever to teach people important messages of life. Simple yet people always seem to miss the point of his stories because his books are meant for toddlers. Thank you Dr. Suess for your words and color! Happy Birthday!
