Indie Filmmaking – Do it Yourself Car Rig Mount

In my ultimate endeavor to make a film, I found myself problem solving the technical needs for filming car scenes before walking into them; the rig type, the construction, the weight load and solid support are only a few of the things I considered when wanting to get those fantastic car driving shots. So I did my research and came across a couple of car mount systems that I liked, but they were just way out of my price range and involved way too many accessorizing tools,  so I decided to build my own bare essentials heavy duty car rig mount that was very versatile!

Keep in mind: I did have to cut the aluminum plates and bars and bolts I purchased, order the camera mount and suction cups. Yes, it helps that I have rig-mounted cameras onto vehicles in the past. This is the most professional look you can get unless you decide to do it guerrilla style.

I used two thick types of aluminum 6061 plates that I purchased on ebay for $18, a camera mount also from ebay for $20, four glass suction cups priced at $21 each,  four impact grip heads at $18 each, one 6061 aluminum bar that I cut into two for $22, and a bag of U-bolts and nuts from Ace hardware for about $15.  So the grand total was about $235 without labor and all the running around I did to get it made.

Here’s a pitch trailer of Gaby & Lucia to get funding for the film. Look at the results!
