This art book released by Titan Books is a celebration of John Alvin’s artwork in Hollywood who has since passed away in 2008. With a foreword by Jeffery Katzenberg and John Alvin’s wife Andrea introducing many of John’s work with commentary and insights. We get a look at how Alvin’s mind as he takes his notes and sketches onto the drawing table and then becoming a movie poster. The 160 page book is filled with Alvin’s Hollywood movie posters, sketches, paintings, notes and his other side projects.
It’s very easy to remember the actors, the dialogue and scenes from movies, but another thing that resonates is the movie poster itself. Movie posters like The Lion King, Blade Runner, Jurassic Park, just to name a few, I will always remember. Like 1980s pop music, the movie discography to my life are many of these John Alvin movie posters. I saw these posters in newspapers, magazines and at the theaters. If you have a passion for films and art, then you will definitely want to add “The Art of John Alvin” to your book collection.
