The Art and Making of The Peanuts Movie

peanutsmoviecoverTwo major comic strips that I grew up in my childhood was Bill Watterson’s Calvin & Hobbes and George M. Schulz’s iconic cartoon character Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang.  I remember having so much fun reading the strips as a kid with my siblings and then watching the Charlie Brown cartoon Holiday specials on TV with my grandparents.  Just pure nostalgia.  After years of waiting, we now finally get an “official Charlie Brown cartoon” from animation house Blue Sky Studios.  Author Jerry Schmitz takes us Charlie Brown fans on an incredible journey inside Blue Sky Studios in The Art and Making of The Peanuts Movie.

Calvin & Hobbes Bill Watterson Returns, Sort of …

calvinandhobbes00I look at my cousins now who grew up in the 2000s, I know that technology has spoiled them from the sleek smartphones, the sexy iPads, the 4G speed, and the big-screen LCDs.  I grew up without the internet and like many kids went out to the playground or played baseball with my brother.  But the most enjoyable memories was waiting to get our hands on the Sunday newspaper with my siblings.  Of course, we would dig through all the cool Toys R Us ads, the Sports Section, but also the Sunday comics section.  One section was just dedicated to cartoon strips like Peanuts, Garfield, Doonesbury, Hagar, Beetle Bailey, and others.  Out of all the comic strips we liked was Calvin & Hobbes.  I used to cut out the strip from the newspaper and collect it into a photo album, until they published trade paperbacks of Calvin & Hobbes.  Every time my family was at the mall, I would directly head to the bookstore like Barnes & Noble and make my mom buy me a Calvin & Hobbes trade paperback.

As a kid I couldn’t wait for Sunday paper to be delivered in the morning.  Besides the Sports section, my other favorite section was the Sunday comics – the whole section devoted to comics!  I laughed and cried reading Calvin and Hobbes.  I just loved Calvin’s interaction with his parents, pet tiger Hobbes and friend Susie Derkins.  When the 11 books of collected adventures of the Calvin and Hobbes strips came out, my sister and me made sure we bought all of these at the bookstores.  And we still have these collected books to this day!
