When Ubisoft launched their video game hit Assassin’s Creed II in 2009, they also released a French-language trilogy of comics to fill-in the gaps and expand the Assassin’s Creed universe with writer Eric Corbeyran and artist Djilalli Defali. Now for the first time, Titan Books has translated the graphic novels to English.
The first book Assassin’s Creed: Desmond basically goes over what happens during the first Assassin’s Creed game with some new twists. The story follows Desmond Miles as he unknowingly works with the Knights Templars’s company Abstergo Industries. Lucy Stillman helps Desmond escape and explains what the Templar’s want from him. The second book Assassin’s Creed: Aquilus introduces a new character into the Assassin’s Creed universe, a ancestor relative of Desmond – Aquilus. Desmond uses the Animus device to go back to the past to find traitors in the past and present. The third book Assassin’s Creed: Accipiter sends us to Rome where Aquilus is hunting the man who killed his father. While Desmond in the present is trying to help his team stay alive from the Templars and looking for an ancient artifact.
I really enjoyed the thematic-style of the art by artist Defali and the story pacing by writer Corberyran. These 3 graphic novels are a must-have for any Assassin’s Creed fans of the universe and video game series.
