Feeding Hannibal: A Connoisseur’s Cookbook by Janice Poon

hanniballcoverI’ve stated many times before when I watch K-Dramas, I get Korean cuisine cravings.  Watching a cute petite actress eat Jjangmyun (black bean sauce noodles), Mandu (meat dumplings), Bulgogi (BBQ beef) or Dukbokki (spicy rice cakes) just makes me hungry to munch on something.  Now back to the topic at hand, the NBC psycho-drama Hannibal.  Question, have you seen the past 3 seasons of Hannibal?  If not, go stream it somewhere!  Besides the incredible acting and visual images, it was also about the deadly appetizing food on the show.

nbchannibal01First off, one of my favorite actors in the business today is Mads Mikkelsen.  You might have seen him in Exit (2006), Casino Royale (2006), The Three Musketeers (2011), Dr. Strange (2016) and the upcoming Rogue One:  A Star Wars Story.  Mads played the cunning forensic psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter in NBC television series Hannibal.  Meet Janice Poon.  She is the “food stylist” for the show and teaches actor Mads how to cook and eat.

nbchannibal02The book covers all 3 seasons of the Hannibal series and has 135 recipes from breakfast items, appetizers, main courses, soups, salads, desserts and of course drinks.  Each recipe offers a behind-the-scenes look or personal story of why this piece of food was used on the show.

nbchannibal03This book is not just your typical Martha Stewart cookbook.  I enjoyed reading many of the personal story anecdotes along with the food recipes.  The instructions are detailed and easy to read.  Since I’m a big cocktail drinker, I especially like the recipes for Sparkling Sangria and Punch Romaine.  Whether your a fan of Hannibal, “wannabe” cook, aspiring chef or food snob, Feeding Hannibal: A Connoisseur’s Cookbook by Janice Poon is worthy to own on your library shelf or kitchen table.
