goldenauraI’ve been able to meet many authors and artists over the years working here at Retrenders and one writer is Chanrithy Him, who wrote the award winning memoir “When Broken Glass Floats: Growing Up Under the Khmer Rouge,” and now, she is working on another writing project that needs a kick-start.  The “Rise of the Golden Aura” is a vampire fantasy novel about a young Cambodian-American girl JD Bohatip living in the city of Portland. Unbeknownst to her, JD is destined to be the “Vampire Queen,” while another group of vampires vies for power and hoping to stop JD from becoming the Queen.

Carbon Fiber LEGO Bricks

carbonfibertouchAnd you thought only carbon fiber was made for exotic supercars?  Not anymore.  The idea of these unique LEGO bricks came about with LEGO fan/builder Mark Carpenter and his 3 sons.  They wanted something unique and cool to make their LEGO builds standout, the Carbon Fiber Tile.

carbonfiberlegocover

They’ve already reached their Kickstarter goal and you will need to pledge more than $38.00USD to get these black high-gloss 1×2 carbon fiber tiles.  As LEGO builder myself, I’m looking for more variety-style carbon bricks than the basic 1×2 tiles and, as they stated on their Kickstarter page, Mark will be adding more variety LEGO compatible bricks in the future.  Now that would be cool.

Check out:  Kickstarter – Carbon Fiber Tiles.

Pebble Watch Review

[Pebble Watch]

My Pebble watch finally arrived! For those who don’t know, this watch is an e-ink display watch which communicates via bluetooth with a smart phone. It rose in popularity due to its interesting design blowing past it’s Kickstarter goal by BIZZZZZILIONS of dollars.

Not being a watch person for many years, I was intrigued by the project and succumbed to its siren’s calling. I backed the watch in May 2012 and waited. And waited. And waited until it arrived. It’s finally in my hands and here’s some quick thoughts!

Package:

The box was made out of cardboard and had an easy to remove pull-string. Inside was the watch and USB charge cable. That’s it – nice and simple. Reminded me of Apple’s minimalistic packaging.

Packaging[Packaging]

Watch:

If I had to describe the watch, I would categorize it as a sporty looking watch. The e-paper display looks good in the daylight and the night time. It has four buttons, up / down / select / back, and a section for the magnetic charge port.
