Max Jackson and Tom Harris are not just best friends, but “retired” thespians always looking for a pub or two for a great night out all over London. Their new drinking hangout is Deadbeat, a cozy jazz bar that Tom bought a few years back after retiring from the theatre business. Some novellas may want you drinking a nicely brew coffee or tea with biscuits, but for this Guy Adam’s pulp fiction novel, you may just want to grab some beer and chips and enjoy the rollicking adventure.
Jago by Kim Newman
Award-winning author Kim Newman’s Jago was published back in 1991, and now Titan Books has just re-release this classic horror story. A hippie music festival takes place in the small English town of Adler. Like any big rock music festival it divides the town into two camps, those who want the money it brings in and those who hate it, because of all the property damage and troubles it causes lead by Adler villager Danny Keough. Many young people like Dolar and his caravan of friends attend the festival to party. On vacation in the town of Adler, Paul is working on his “end of the world” thesis, while his girlfriend Hazel a potter, runs a pottery shop for a family on vacation. And we find out that this rock festival is run by a religious cult the Agapemone and from within, Susan a British Secret Service agent is trying to find out who is the mysterious figure – Anthony William Jago. As the music festival begins, urban legends, darkness, and evil is unleashed on the town of Alder.

Concept Art & Sketches: Olly Moss
Pop artist Olly Moss posted a bunch of concept art, sketches, rough drafts and doodles on projects that never really went anywhere for 2012 on his blog site. But, hey, it’s Olly Moss art and I think the art posters and sketches look cool.
Umbrella Art by Luke Jerram
The staff here at Retrenders has brought you other umbrella art pieces in the past – maybe its a trend. Seriously though, artist Luke Jerram said it best in describing his recent outdoor art installation Just Sometimes, “It’s ok to create something that is simply beautiful that makes the public smile.” Honestly, I really wouldn’t mind walking by this to work everyday. Sure would bring a smile to my face and some spring to my feet as I tackle a long day of work. Go to his website to check out some of his other amazing art installation, sculptures, and live art.
Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton = Concept Store
A few months ago, we here at Retrenders showcased the purses that were designed by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (https://retrenders.com/2012/06/11/louis-vuitton-x-yayoi-kusama/) in collaborating with Louis Vuitton. Kusama’s bio is as interesting as her body of work and that’s exactly what fascinated Marc Jacob at Louis Vuitton. Recently in London, Selfridges, a high end department store in the UK, launched a window display designed by Kusama in collaboration with Louis Vuitton. It is nothing but spectacular and is a total treat for the eye.

Google Chrome Build x LEGO
Now you can build your LEGO masterpieces without spending lots of money on bricks. Also you won’t waste time brick building by hand because you can now use Google’s new software Build – a Chrome based LEGO brick building game. It’s cool because you can visualize your LEGO build virtually and make sure everything looks right before you build it with real LEGO pieces.
Hand Drawn London Map by Jenni Sparks
I like to draw, well, more like doodling in my notebook. But this is too insane – a hand drawn map of London. Really, this is hand drawn!
Illustrator/artist Jenni Sparks spent 2 months and over 100 hours drawing the city. What’s cool about this map is it does not highlight the tourist traps, but showcases landmarks, pubs, neighborhoods, local stores, and other cool places in London.

Bayan Audio 7 iPod Speaker Dock
Here’s a nice little system to dock your iPhone – the Bayan Audio 7. It has an 8″ woofer with 120W of power which is loud enough for any room. It can also charge and play any Apple devices. The only problem – it’s currently only available in England. Hopefully it makes it’s way here in the States.

Artist Explores What’s in a Women’s Purse
Ever wonder what women carry in their purses? This past Wednesday in London, the Serpentine Gallery explores what’s in their purses put together by Hans-Peter Feldmann. What woman would have someone dig in your private purse – the security blanket that you carry with you? But Hans-Peter did pay to look in each hangbag for €5oo.
