Gallery Nineteen Eighty Eight with Sony Pictures is kicking off a super 30th anniversary celebration of the 1984 Ghostbusters film that starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and late Harold Ramis. Director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan, The Fountain) is known for making movie controversy and he does it again with his 2014 movie film Noah taken from the Bible. Titan Books releases two novels based on the movie, the official novelization by Mark Morris and a YA (Young Adult) book titled Noah: Ila’s Story by Susan Korman based on the screenplay by Darren Aronofsky and Ari Handel.
The world has turned more dark and sinister, and Noah has a vision from the Creator that a great flood will come to wipe out the world. He must build an ark to save his family and all the animals. In the mist of all this, warlord leader Tubal-cain who killed Noah’s father Lamech comes back years later to try to take over Noah’s Ark with his army of soldiers. The official novel by Mark Morris follows Noah’s journey like the PG-13 movie.

A long time ago, I remember watching Pixar’s Toy Story in the theater and I was blown away by the CG animation and storytelling. Over the years, many animation houses were looking to do the same and one is Blue Sky Studios (Epic, Ice Age). The CG animated film Rio was a 2011 hit and surpassed the $400 million mark in box-office receipts, so obviously there is a sequel with Rio 2 arriving into US multiplexes on April 11, 2014. Along the way, Titan Books has just released: The Art of Rio – Featuring a Carnival of Art from Rio and Rio 2.

I remember sitting in the multiplexes eagerly waiting to watch 300 and by the end of the movie I was blown away and it made me cry out: “Spartans!” Well, now its 2014 and a sequel of sorts will be coming out to the movie theaters – 300: Rise of an Empire. Titan Books has released of a companion book to the movie with 300: Rise of an Empire – The Art of the Film. This 160 page beautifully over-sized hardbound art book will have everything you want from the 300: Rise of an Empire film.

As 80s kids, my brother and me were blown away when we first watched James Cameron’s epic ALIENS (1986) and then we had to grab a VHS copy of Ridley Scott’s ALIEN (1979) to fill in the blanks, because Sigourney Weaver played the iconic scientist hero Ellen Ripley who was such a bad-ass. In our minds Aliens 3, Alien Resurrection and Aliens vs Predator never happened, just like Brett Ratners’ X-Men 3. My head hurts just thinking about this, but I digress. After watching the first two films, you wondered if anything happened to Ellen Ripley during her 57 years of sleep? This “official novel” enlightens ALIEN fans on what happened to Ripley from the end of the first ALIEN film and the start of the second ALIENS film.

The film stars Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness), Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad). The film opens January 10, 2014 in theaters. Tze draws and paints 4 different posters that look really cool.

I RIDE has just been released on amazon.com and you can find it at your local participating WalMart, but what I’d like to tell you here is my personal take behind the making of the film.
Documentary filmmaking can be tough, unpredictable at times, and you have to capture it as best as possible every step of the way.
I’ve had the opportunity to take part in the making of Daron Ker’s “I Ride” and I would like to tell you my experience from the past to the present. There were moments that I had to endure and moments that I enjoyed behind the making of the film, because the physical path, the communications involved and the decisions made during filmmaking is what ends up shaping the story.
Initially I was introduced to Daron Ker and Marcus Bruno through Stephen Jang. We all had nine to five jobs and Daron was the only one at the time with funds to begin making a film about a biker band that played to America’s motorcycle culture movement. The inception to make I RIDE began by meeting the Fryed Brothers Band back in 2005.

Elysium: The Art of the Film

I had the pleasure of watching Elysium on the big IMAX screen this past weekend and it was a blast to watch. Director-writer Neill Blomkamp created his first intellectual sci-fi hit with District 9 on the cheap and now with a Hollywood budget, he’s able to create visual science-fiction tour de force.
“The idea of Elysium was born out of growing up in a country where wealth discrepancy is a huge issue,” says Blomkamp – Elysium: The Art of the Film.
The year is 2159 and the Earth is overpopulated with scarce resources, rampant crime and poverty. The wealthy class escaped to space and built a heavenly space colony called Elysium. Our anti-hero Max played by Matt Damon clinging to life takes on mission to not only save himself but for the people of Earth. But before I get to the down and gritty of this art book I had some minor complaints: 1) Is it just me or Jodie Foster accent really annoying? 2) When the rebel ships try to land into Elysium, bad guy Kruger uses a shoulder-mounted missile launcher with missiles that are able to go all the way up to space and knock-down the rebel ships? 3) And this leads to my next rant, if this space colony has magic healing machines that can cure cancer and is a technical marvel, Elysium doesn’t have self-defensive weapons like in Star Trek’s Deep Space Nine or Babylon 5 – what is up with that? 4) My last rant – I wished we could see more of the people living in the futuristic space colony. But other than that, it was a wonderful summer movie.
