DSLR Gear to Get You That Pro Look While on a Budget

I came from a broadcasting background and grew up with camcorders, so I was weary when the first DSLR cameras hit the market with video capabilities.  Can DSLR’s do a better job with video?  As the years passed, I have to say DSLR cameras recording video is not a fad, it’s here to stay.

Point & Shoot (POS) cameras and camcorders are on a downward slide, while DSLRs are on the upswing, and in these next two years it will be an awesome time for fans of DSLRs.  The two big companies – Canon and Nikon, are waging a DSLR battle.  Just this year – Canon released the 5D Mark 3 ($3,500USD), and Nikon released two cameras- the D3200($700USD) and the D800 ($3000USD).  Starting later this year or early 2013, Nikon will be releasing the D5200, D400, and D800 and Canon will be releasing the T4i, 7D Mark 2 and 70D and you can expect incredible audio and video recording capabilities.

With all these cameras and lenses to spend money on, you might be thinking I don’t have too much leftover cash to spend on professional or prosumer gear like tripods, LED flashes, etc.  Wrong again.  Here’s some equipment on a budget that will make you look like a professional:

Bad-@$$ Videogame Room

Really? An Atari Jaguar??? Didn’t it only have like 3 games? LoL.

I am not a hardcore gamer but I am definitely a gamer. The first ever video game that I played was Pong (so u can probably guess how old I am). Then I went through the Atari, Nintendo, Playstation, etc. So when I saw this picture, all I can say was AWESOME. Also this is not some non-functional museum piece – all the systems are plugged in and ready to go! Can you imagine how cool it’d be to just pick out a game on the left hand side and turn on any system and play it?! It’s safe to say, if that did happen, I could probably then die a happy man.

Drink: A Refreshing Drink – Beergarita

Okay, I got ahead start on my Memorial Day weekend. Last night I met up with some friends at a Mexican restaurant in Porterville, California, called El Tapatio. I really needed a drink that would beat the heat, so I had what they called a beergarita. Nothing new here but it’s new to me…

Ingredients for the Beergarita/Beer-rita

  • 6.4 oz Coronita or 11 oz Corona bottles if you can’t find the Coronita size.
  • 8 oz Tequila Blanco… or a bit more if you prefer, like myself.
  • 1 can Frozen Limeade Concentrate
  • 8 wedges Lime
  • 1/2 Cup Salt
  • 15 cubes Ice

Let the frozen limeade defrost on kitchen counter for approximately 5 min to soften. Open and pour limeade into 2 qt pitcher. Fill limeade can with 8 oz Tequila and pour into pitcher. Stir Tequila and limeade until thoroughly mixed. Slowly pour 24 oz of beer. Let the foam from the beer subside and add enough ice to fill the pitcher. Slowly mix ingredients and serve over ice.
