Pebble Watch Review

[Pebble Watch]

My Pebble watch finally arrived! For those who don’t know, this watch is an e-ink display watch which communicates via bluetooth with a smart phone. It rose in popularity due to its interesting design blowing past it’s Kickstarter goal by BIZZZZZILIONS of dollars.

Not being a watch person for many years, I was intrigued by the project and succumbed to its siren’s calling. I backed the watch in May 2012 and waited. And waited. And waited until it arrived. It’s finally in my hands and here’s some quick thoughts!

Package:

The box was made out of cardboard and had an easy to remove pull-string. Inside was the watch and USB charge cable. That’s it – nice and simple. Reminded me of Apple’s minimalistic packaging.

Packaging[Packaging]

Watch:

If I had to describe the watch, I would categorize it as a sporty looking watch. The e-paper display looks good in the daylight and the night time. It has four buttons, up / down / select / back, and a section for the magnetic charge port.

G-Shock with Bluetooth

gshockbluetooth

One of the great things of owning an iPhone, is looking through all the available accessories and gadgets that work with it. One such gadget I came across, is this Bluetooth enabled G-Shock watch from Casio. I love G-Shocks for their durability and with this one, you can pair your iPhone with it and be alerted to Facebook and Twitter events, calls, or email. It can sync-up time to your phone’s clock and it even includes an iPhone finder feature just in case you misplace your precious smartphone on those “what was I doing again?” days.

numarkmixtrackpro2

With the growing popularity of EDM (Electronic Dance Music) in recent years, everybody wants to be a DJ now – and even Paris Hilton (I won’t post any video links because it’s just tragic, but if you are curious, you can find the clips on YouTube.)!  Now back to the subject at hand, Numark made a super popular beginning all-in-one DJ USB controller – the Mixtrack Pro in the past and it was a hot seller.  The company just released it’s latest earlier this month with the Mixtrack Pro II.  For me, I think this is a great starter set for anybody wanting to know more about DJing and having friends over a house party.

Instant Print Digital Pictures

digitalcamera

For those who are not happy just seeing a digital picture but wants that photo printed out right away, Polaroid has figured out a solution and came out with this neat little camera. This camera still retains all the great features we love about digital cameras – like the 10 megapixel sensor, 720p HD video recording, 6x digital zoom, and anti-shake image stabilization, but best of all, it contains ZINK Zero Ink Printing Technology which provides “inkless” printing; no need to install any sort of ink cartridges. What you get are 2″ x 3″ full color prints in less than a minute without the use of any nearby computer or photo printer.

MSRP:  $179.99USD

Future Flicks: Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM update!

I think Guillermo del Toro is about to crush the Transformers franchise with a single Pacific Rim blow!

Pacific Rim 2013 Poster

The fact is, Pacific Rim touches on all popular elements of a fantastic science fiction in the near future which includes sleek but robust militarized technology armor suits, giant manned battle robots as tanks and a fight for humanity in a war against gargantuan beasts unleashed from the sea as it appears from the trailer. And from the trailer, I would have to say Pacific Rim is much more layered than a Transformer flick and promises to give us the equivalent of what Star Wars gave to audiences in 1980s – a jaw dropping awe. Watch out George Lucas!

Smoko Toaster USB Hub

At first this reminded me of a children’s toy for a five year old but after looking at it a little closer, it brought a huge smile to my face. Not for its silliness, but for it’s cleverness.   Each piece of toast is a 4GB Flash Drive and the toaster itself is the USB hub. The artist took a mundane, everyday appliance and applied a nice amount of wit and charm – I just love the Crisp Toast Flash Drive with the crossed out eyes. The USB Flash Drives come in four designs (Tato, Butta, Ry Ry, and Crisp), while the toaster is equipped with four USB ports and a SD card slot.

Buy these neat USB flash devices @ My Plastic Heart – Smoko Toaster USB Hub.

LEGO Stratos Skydive Jump

A LEGO fan re-created the RedBull Stratos 2012 skydive by Felix Baumgartner.

Here’s the non-LEGO video with Felix dropping 96,640 feet breaking the freefall record.  He had a top speed of 536 feet, man, that is crazy.  I would have black out at that speed.  I guess this can be a real “Iron Man” suit!

The History of the Batmobile

Image via Jay Mug.

Now that is a garage I would love to walk into – five of the most iconic Batmobiles all in one place. My favorite has always been Michael Keaton’s ride in Tim Burton’s Batman. The curves on that car blended perfectly with the gothic theme throughout the movie. Looking at it now, it still holds up. The other two Batmobiles afterwards were kind of cheesy, until Christopher Nolan’s Tumbler came along with its industrial stylings, and tore up the blueprint.

Artist Inspired Eco-Friendly Speakers

Almost all speakers out there under $1,000 USD are just dull black veneer wrapped around MDF speakers.  Now don’t get me wrong, some of them sound great but when the music stops, they just look like the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey. Recently, I stumbled upon these speakers and these seem to add a pretty nice second dimension to your speaker. It’s as if you can enjoy it with the music on or off.

Japan: FitEar ToGo 334

I attend the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas every year (I hope to bring back some great pics for Retrenders at next years show) and I have heard my share of amazing audiophile-quality headphones. Most of the high end $500+ headphones are over-the-head styles and I don’t remember ever seeing or hearing a pair of in-ear headphone in that price range. That’s why I was really drawn to Cnet’s “Best In-Ear Headphone” claim.
